Tom Stout

1879–1965 (age 86)

Biography

Tom Stout forged a career first in journalism and later in public office, helping to keep Montana residents informed while then representing them in the halls of Congress. He believed that coverage of local concerns and national action must work hand in hand, so his message carried the rural voices of his state to Washington.

After leaving federal service he returned to writing and community affairs, remaining a steady advocate for agricultural families and a mentor to journalists who followed in his footsteps. His lifelong curiosity and affection for the land kept him grounded through triumphs and turning points alike.
