Biography
Tom Taylor became known as a playwright and editor whose popular dramas, including collaborations with the stage, balanced entertainment with thoughtfulness about social matters, and his tenure at the helm of Punch magazine brought a lively wit to the conversations of the age. He had a particular gift for giving voice to characters who grappled with moral choices, thereby making audiences reflect as well as laugh.
He also championed new talent, helping to lift the careers of younger dramatists and actors, and his generosity toward colleagues, along with his lifelong devotion to the theatre, are remembered with affection by those who lay him to rest at Brompton.
