Biography

Utagawa Toyoharu (1735–1814) was a master ukiyo-e artist and founder of the influential Utagawa school, one of the most important artistic lineages in Japanese printmaking. His innovative techniques and distinctive style revolutionized the field of woodblock printing.

Toyoharu's prolific career and mentorship of numerous students established a legacy that would dominate ukiyo-e for generations. He was buried at Honkyō-ji Temple, commemorated as a pivotal figure in Japanese artistic history.
