Václav Salášek

1834–1890 (age 56)

Biography

Václav Salášek, born in 1834, devoted himself to political life in Bohemia, seeking to bring the concerns of towns and villages before the regional assemblies of the empire. He worked to strengthen local self-government, encouraged investment in schools and municipal services, and tried to ease the tensions between rural communities and the changing economic pressures of the late 19th century.

His colleagues remember him as a thoughtful mediator whose steady hand guided the region through years of social change, and the faithful lay flowers at his grave in the Hřbitov u kostela Povýšení svatého Kříže as a sign of lasting respect.
