Václav Thám was a pioneering actor whose gift for emotive expression and dedication to the dramatic arts enlivened Prague’s stages at the dawn of the nineteenth century. He helped cultivate a sense of national identity through theatre, engaging audiences with performances that honored Czech language and culture.

His presence on the boards and in the growing community of artists left a lasting impression, and his memory is cherished each time the lights rise on the city’s theatres and the Olšany Cemetery holds silent vigil over his resting place.
