Valentine McGillycuddy

Biography

Valentine McGillycuddy (1849-1939) was a military officer and Indian agent whose career spanned the Civil War era and the evolving frontier in the Dakota Territory.

He worked earnestly to build relationships with the Lakota people and later maintained a lifelong interest in the Black Hills that brought him comfort as he is remembered near Black Elk Peak.
