Biography

Vasiliy Ivanovitsj Smoljanich (1923–1953) was a young man whose life was cut short during the post-war Soviet period. He lived during the reconstruction and development of the Soviet state following World War II.

Based in Novoshakhtinsk, Smoljanich's brief life was part of the generation that came of age during the Soviet era. He represents those whose lives were shaped by the historical circumstances of mid-twentieth century Russia.
