Biography

Viktor Zhirmunsky was a distinguished Soviet literary scholar and historian born in 1891. A prominent figure in Soviet literary criticism and the study of Russian literature, Zhirmunsky made substantial contributions to the understanding of literary history and theory throughout his long and productive career.

Zhirmunsky's scholarly work helped shape Soviet approaches to literary analysis and historical study. His research and publications were influential in academic circles, and he remained an active and respected scholar until his death in 1971. He was interred at the Cemetery in Komarovo.
