Biography

Virginia Christian, born in 1895, lived in Hampton, Virginia, during a time when opportunities for young Black women were severely limited; she worked as a domestic, striving to support herself and her family amid deep inequities. She died in 1912 and was buried at First Baptist Church-Hampton Cemetery; her brief life remains a solemn reminder of the need for compassion and fair treatment for all who labor in the service of others.
