Biography

Virginia Christian, born in 1895, lived in Hampton, Virginia, during a time when opportunities for young Black women were severely limited; she worked as a domestic, striving to support herself and her family amid deep inequities. Her life drew national attention in its final weeks, sparking debate about justice, youth, and mercy.

She died in 1912 and was buried at First Baptist Church-Hampton Cemetery; her brief life remains a solemn reminder of the need for compassion and fair treatment for all who labor in the service of others.
