Biography

Vladimir Gadon (1860-1937) was a Russian whose long life witnessed the dramatic transformation of his nation from empire to Soviet state. Born in the twilight of Imperial Russia, he lived through revolution, civil war, and the early decades of Communist rule.

Gadon was executed at the Butovo firing range in 1937 during Stalin's Great Purge. His death at age 77 exemplifies how the terror reached across all generations and social strata of Soviet society.
