Biography

Walter Leake, born in 1762, studied law and rose to serve Mississippi as a U.S. senator before becoming the state's third governor, helping shape the institutions and courts of a brand-new state.

He passed in 1825 and returned to the quiet of the Leake Family Cemetery, where family and citizens alike remember the statesman who steered them through those early years.
