Ward Hill Lamon

Biography

Ward Hill Lamon was a lawyer whose loyalty to Abraham Lincoln led to his appointment as U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia and as the President's personal guard.

After Lincoln's death he recorded tender recollections, seeking to preserve the President's memory, and his final rest near Gerrardstown honors a life of devoted service.
