Biography
Washington Atlee Burpee (1858–1915) founded W.A. Burpee & Co., building one of the nation’s most respected seed houses while guiding gardeners and farmers with a passionate belief in the power of plants to nourish families and communities.
He is remembered at Doylestown Cemetery not only as a pioneering seed merchant and horticulturist but also as a generous mentor whose letters, catalogs, and counsel encouraged new growers to experiment and to care for the land.
