Washington C. Whitthorne

Biography

Washington C. Whitthorne, born in 1825, spent his life in service to Tennessee, rising from the state legislature to the United States Congress and earning acclaim for his steady leadership and respect for the Constitution. He was an advocate for rebuilding and reconciliation after the Civil War, striving to bring prosperity back to his rural district through constructive legislation.

He passed in 1891 and was laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery, where he is remembered as a patient statesman who devoted himself to the betterment of his state and its people.
