Wharton J. Green was born in 1831 and spent his life as a steady presence in the Cross Creek area, helping to sustain the quiet rhythms of a community shaped by the tides of the 19th century.

He passed away in 1910 and is remembered by intimates for the calm strength he brought to family and neighbors alike; he now rests at Cross Creek Cemetery #2.
