Biography
Wilhelm Lehmann embraced the new medium of photography, framing the streets and people of 19th-century Vienna with a painterly eye while helping the art form gain acceptance among patrons of culture.
His work preserved the changing face of the city and the individuals who animated it, and following his death in 1881 his memory endures with the prints and negatives cherished by admirers and kept at his resting place in Hietzing Cemetery.
