Will Shade grew up amid the rich musical currents of Memphis, and he emerged as the leader and organizing spirit behind the Memphis Jug Band, helping to bring jug band and blues music from neighborhood porches to wider acclaim.

Beyond performing, he preserved the tradition by managing the band's repertoire and guiding younger musicians, and his contributions to American music remain cherished by those who visit Shelby County Cemetery.
