Biography

Willard Ives, born in 1806 in the North Country of New York, practiced law near Watertown before winning election to the Twenty-fourth Congress, where he championed infrastructure improvements and the concerns of farmers and merchants.

Returning home after his term, he devoted himself to agriculture and to education, helping to establish Ives Seminary in Antwerp and supporting local churches and schools, thus ensuring that the opportunities of learning endured long after his retirement.
