William A. Peffer

Biography

William A. Peffer, born in 1831, became a voice for Kansas farmers and served as a U.S. Senator, bringing the concerns of rural communities to the national stage with earnest advocacy.

After his years in public life, he remained a familiar figure in Topeka, where those who knew him recall his plainspoken sense of fairness, and he is now interred at Topeka Cemetery.
