Biography
William A. Poynter came to Nebraska after years as an educator and farmer, earning the trust of his neighbors through service in the legislature and winning election as governor in 1899.
He worked to temper economic pressures on families by advocating for fair taxation and improved schools, and even after leaving office he remained a patient counselor for the communities he served.
