1806–1887 (age 81)
plantation owner/politician
Biography
Born into Charleston's planter class in 1806, William Aiken approached the stewardship of his lands with a sense of responsibility that married close attention to agricultural detail with a measured concern for the community that depended upon him.
His forays into public life kept him engaged with South Carolina's politics, and through it all the calm shade of Magnolia Cemetery now holds his memory, a peaceful place for reflection on a life spent tending both private fields and public trust.
