William Andrew Quarles, born in 1825, was known by the people of the Flat Lick Cumberland Presbyterian community for his steady hand and calm character.

Though little is recorded of his vocational path, those who gather at Flat Lick Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery speak of him with respect as a devoted presence who passed in 1893.
