William B. Gould

Biography
William B. Gould escaped enslavement in the late 1850s, joined the Union Navy, and documented his wartime experiences in detailed diaries that would later enlighten generations about that service.
Following the war he built a life in the Brookdale area, raised a family, and remained engaged with veterans and his neighbors, a record of courage and generosity now commemorated at Brookdale Cemetery.
