William Bligh

Biography

Captain William Bligh (1754–1817) gained renown for his navigation of distant oceans and for leading voyages that stretched the bounds of the Royal Navy. His courage in the face of peril reflected a lifelong commitment to duty, discipline, and the wellbeing of his crew.

The memorial at the Garden Museum keeps in mind a sailor whose many contributions to exploration, whether in mapping shores or advancing seafaring practice, continue to inspire respect.
