Biography
William Cannon devoted his life to the people of Delaware and in 1863 was elected governor at the height of the Civil War, guiding the state with a steady hand as it balanced loyalty to the Union with the concerns of its citizens.
Those who knew him remember a measured leader who kept faith with the rule of law and with those who served, and he now rests in Bridgeville Cemetery where his service to Delaware is recalled.
