William Coxe

Biography

William Coxe travelled widely and chronicled empires, composing histories and travel accounts that brought the Alps, the Rhine, and the courts of Europe to an English readership hungry for knowledge.

He balanced that literary output with a peaceful existence near Salisbury, and his memorial at Bemerton recalls a writer whose careful observation preserved the past for future generations.
