Biography

William Davidson Niven devoted his life to mathematics, guiding students through the rigours of analysis and number theory while acknowledging that the gentle discipline of teaching could be as transformative as any research accomplishment.

He brought the same patient intelligence to his wider community, offering counsel and support to friends and neighbours and now rests in the peaceful churchyard of Old St Peter's Church on South Road in Peterhead.
