Biography

William Dorsheimer built a career as a lawyer in Buffalo before serving as the city's mayor from 1873 to 1874 and then as lieutenant governor of New York in 1875–1876, balancing urban management with a reformist zeal and working closely with the state's Democratic leadership.

After leaving elective office he returned to legal practice and civic causes, maintaining a lively interest in Buffalo's progress and in public education, and he was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
