William Douglas

Biography

William Douglas was a distinguished painter active during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His artistic career spanned a formative period in Scottish painting, contributing to the cultural development of Edinburgh during this era.

Douglas was respected within Edinburgh's artistic community and maintained his practice until his death in 1832. He was laid to rest in New Calton Cemetery, a burial ground that became the final resting place for many of Edinburgh's notable citizens.
