Biography

William Elmhirst was a military officer who served during the First World War, one of the most consequential conflicts of the twentieth century. Born in 1892, he entered military service during the war years, dedicating himself to his duties as a commissioned officer in the armed forces.

Elmhirst made the ultimate sacrifice in 1916, giving his life in service to his country at the age of 24. He was honored with burial in Serre Road Cemetery No. 1, where he rests among the many fallen soldiers who gave their lives during the Great War.
