Biography

William F. Perry, born in 1823, served as a Confederate general, leading troops through some of the Civil War's most trying campaigns, and he carried those lessons of leadership and sacrifice into the decades that followed.

After the war he became an educator, mentoring students and veterans alike, believing that thoughtful instruction and moral discipline were the surest routes to healing a divided nation; Fairview Cemetery now honors his devotion to learning and to others.
