William Gerard Vermilye

Biography

William Gerard Vermilye (1841–1900) was a New York banker whose firm supported the burgeoning commerce of the Gilded Age while he also lent his energies to philanthropic endeavors.

He believed that financial success obligates one to assist others, and he sustained charitable initiatives that addressed poverty and supported the arts in the city he called home.
