Biography

William Gibbons was a prominent resident of Savannah during the late colonial and early federal periods. Living from 1726 to 1800, he witnessed the transformation of Georgia from a colonial outpost to a state in the new American union.

Gibbons was interred in Colonial Park Cemetery, reflecting his standing in Savannah society. His long life spanned three-quarters of a century of significant historical change in the American South.
