William Goforth

Biography

William Goforth (1731–1807) was a prominent figure in early American scientific and cultural life. As a naturalist and collector, he contributed to the advancement of natural history knowledge during a period when such pursuits were vital to understanding the American landscape and its resources.

Goforth's work and legacy were preserved through his burial at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, a location that became a repository for many of Ohio's notable early settlers and citizens. His life spanned the entire Revolutionary era and the early years of the American republic.
