Biography

William Henry Obree (1831–1859) served as a meticulous hydrographer, charting shoals and currents across the channel from Deal to ensure mariners could navigate with greater confidence.

His charts and reports, though composed before the age of steam took full hold, lengthened the safety of cargo and passenger vessels, and he was laid to rest in Hamilton Road Cemetery, Deal, where sailors and families recall his dedication.
