Biography
William Henry Solomon was born in 1852 and rose through the ranks of the legal profession to become one of South Africa's most respected jurists. He was noted for his incisive intellect, fairness from the bench, and dedication to the rule of law during a period of rapid change.
As Chief Justice of South Africa he oversaw the consolidation of judicial institutions, mentored younger lawyers, and ensured that the courts remained a place of measured judgment and integrity, continuing in public service until his death in 1930.
