Biography

William Higby, born in 1813, came west during the Gold Rush and turned his experience in newspapers and business into a platform for public service, winning election to represent California in the United States Congress.

He became known for defending miners' rights and for speaking plainly for the hardworking people who shaped the state, and Mountain View Cemetery honors him as a public servant devoted to California's development.
