Biography
William Jackson Palmer's engineering skill and visionary outlook shaped the rails of the Kansas Pacific Railway and laid the foundation for Colorado Springs, a city he envisioned as a haven of health and culture.
A philanthropist as well as a railroad executive, he gifted parks, libraries, and open spaces so residents could breathe more freely, and today his memorial at Evergreen Cemetery stands close to the city he helped nurture.
