Biography
William James Linton (1812–1897) was a renowned wood-engraver, writer, and reformer whose creative work bridged continents. After emigrating to the United States, he continued his longstanding advocacy for freedom of expression, social reform, and the elevation of the arts, leaving a global imprint through both image and word.
In his final years he remained devoted to the causes closest to his heart, and he was laid to rest in State Street Cemetery. Linton is remembered as an artist whose vision and voice inspired countless others to pursue a more just and humane world.
