William Meade Fishback

Biography

William Meade Fishback (1831-1903) was a lawyer and statesman who served as the seventeenth governor of Arkansas, guiding the state through economic adjustment after the panic of the 1890s. He trusted in the rule of law and in the importance of bringing people together across former divides.

He retired to private legal practice with a keen interest in mentoring younger attorneys, delighting in the success of the citizens he had once represented. His colleagues remembered him for blending principle with compassion for every client who came before him.
