William Mulholland

Biography

William Mulholland, born in Ireland in 1855, emigrated to the United States and became the visionary engineer behind the Los Angeles Aqueduct, a monumental feat that transformed a desert region into a thriving metropolis. His mastery of water management and fearless pursuit of supply lines enabled farmers and city dwellers alike to prosper in Southern California.

While the St. Francis Dam disaster brought sorrow in the later years of his career, Mulholland's earlier achievements continued to sustain the city he helped create, and his devotion to engineering artistry endured. He was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where admirers still reflect on the complex legacy of the man who shaped Los Angeles' growth.
