Biography

William Mulloy was an American archaeologist whose groundbreaking work on Easter Island transformed scholarly understanding of Polynesian civilization. Born in 1917, he dedicated much of his career to excavating and preserving the island's remarkable archaeological heritage, including its iconic moai statues and ancient settlement patterns.

Mulloy's meticulous research and innovative methodologies advanced the field of Pacific archaeology and deepened knowledge of pre-Columbian cultures. His contributions to the study of Easter Island's history and his commitment to archaeological preservation earned him international recognition. He was buried at Tahai, on the island he devoted so much of his life to understanding.
