Biography

William Patterson Borland, a Missouri lawyer and scholar, taught civil law before being elected to Congress, where he worked to balance development and conservation during the rapid growth of the early twentieth century.

As a U.S. Representative he championed sensible public land policies and sought to bring fair procedures to federal oversight, and today his grave at Elmwood Cemetery marks the end of a career devoted to the public interest.
