William Shorey

Biography

William Shorey was a distinguished African-American whaling captain who achieved prominence during the nineteenth century whaling era. As a skilled maritime leader, he commanded vessels and contributed significantly to the whaling industry during a period when such positions of authority were rarely held by men of color.
