William Sublette
1799–1845 (age 46)
Fur Trader
Biography
William Sublette was a mountain man and fur trader who helped found the Rocky Mountain Fur Company, staked trading posts along the frontier, and carved safe routes for others following the trails of the West.
After years leading expeditions across vast terrain, he settled near St. Louis, where his experience bridged the fur trade and the growing Mississippi Valley communities; Bellefontaine Cemetery now marks his place among those pioneers.
