William Tennant

1784–1848 (age 64)

Biography

William Tennant earned renown as one of Scotland's most original poets, crafting verses that combined lively humour with poignant tenderness, most famously in "Anster Fair." He balanced his literary pursuits with the close friendships of Anstruther, finding lasting inspiration in the rhythms of fishing life and the Firth of Forth.

As parishioners at Anstruther Easter recall, his keen eye for character and the warmth of his wit brought new appreciation to the people and places of Fife, and his legacy endures in the literary spark he left behind.
