Biography

William Woolsey Johnson was a mathematician and educator whose lectures and writings deepened appreciation for geometry and analysis in American universities. Serving many years as a professor, he encouraged rigorous thought while supporting younger scholars in their pursuits.

His contributions to mathematical journals and to the mentoring of students kept the subject vibrant for generations, and his memory is preserved at Woodlawn Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum.
