Biography

William Wordsworth stands as one of the most significant literary figures of the English Romantic movement. Born in 1770 in the Lake District, he became a poet of profound influence, whose works celebrating nature and the human spirit transformed English literature. His long life witnessed the full arc of Romanticism, from its revolutionary beginnings to its mature flowering, and he remained a towering presence in English letters until his death.

Wordsworth passed away in 1850 at the remarkable age of eighty, having spent much of his later life in his beloved Lake District. He was laid to rest at St Oswald's Church in Grasmere, the village that had become his spiritual home and the setting for much of his greatest work.
