Biography
Yitzhak Baer produced seminal writings on medieval Spanish Jewry and wrote clear, lyrical histories that captured the rhythms of Jewish communal life under diverse rulers. His books combined meticulous archival work with a sensitive awareness of how law, language, and faith wove together.
Even in retirement he remained a teacher at heart, encouraging young historians to listen to the voices of the past and to approach their sources with both precision and compassion; he rests at Har HaMenuchot.
