Yohanan Ratner
1891–1965 (age 74)
Biography
Architect Yohanan Ratner was born in 1891 and trained in the European traditions of town planning and modern construction before applying those disciplines to life in Mandate Palestine, where he worked to design dignified public buildings and residential neighborhoods.
His projects, which harmonized rational forms with the light and materials of the region, helped shape the growing cities of the north, and his careful stewardship of civic space is still remembered by those who walk past the structures he left behind, with his final resting place at Hof HaCarmel Cemetery.
